Answers to common questions
How fast can an exterminator near me come out?
It depends on the provider. Many providers can respond quickly, but schedules shift with the season and the job. Musclekeeping Pest Control does not set the schedule. We refer your request to a local provider, and that provider books the visit. Request a callback to check provider availability. Or send the estimate form. Say so if animals are inside the house.
Does homeowners insurance cover pest damage?
Often not. Many policies treat termites, mice, and slow damage as home upkeep, not a covered event. Some policies may cover sudden damage, like a raccoon tearing into a roof during a storm. Check your policy and ask your agent. Providers can often help document damage for a claim. Photos and dated notes help. Musclekeeping Pest Control cannot tell you what your policy covers. We only refer you to providers.
What happens during a residential pest control visit?
The provider checks the inside, the outside, and the foundation. In a home with a full basement, that can mean the sump pit, window wells, and the wood along the top of the walls. They find the pest. They name the cause. They explain the plan and give a written quote. Ask which products are used and where kids and pets should stay.
How much does pest control cost?
Costs vary by job. In the U.S., a one-time treatment for common pests often runs about $100 to $300. Termite treatment commonly runs from about $500 to several thousand dollars. Wildlife removal and sealing work can reach $200 to $1,000 or more. Size, pest, and home type change the price. Get a written quote from each provider. Compare, then decide.
Do I have to leave home for bed bug treatment?
Sometimes. Heat treatment may mean leaving for most of a day. Spray treatment may need a few hours out. Ask the provider for a prep list. It usually covers laundry, clutter, and bagging bedding. Skipping prep can mean a second visit. Bed bug treatment often takes more than one visit, so ask about follow-ups before you agree.
How do I keep mice and rats out during winter?
Seal gaps bigger than a dime around pipes, vents, and the foundation. Cold winters push mice and rats indoors. Older frame houses settle over many decades, so they tend to have more gaps. Keep food in tight bins. Stack firewood away from the walls. A provider can find entry points you may miss and close them.
How can I spot termites early?
Look for mud tubes on foundation walls, soft or hollow wood, and shed wings near windows. Hot, humid summers and wet springs help termites thrive. Fix leaks. Run a dehumidifier in the basement. Keep soil from touching siding. A yearly inspection can catch trouble early. Ask each provider whether an inspection carries a fee.
